Welcome, Doctors!
How can DeVine Interventions Group help your practice?
Gary DeVine provides integrative behavioral health treatment for individual adults. He has been counseling for about 20 years and has been a Licensed Professional Counselor for 14 years. He is licensed in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and credentialed by multiple insurance companies and EAPs.
Gary offers consultations and accepts patient referrals. He tailors treatment to your referral’s needs according to best practices. Book a consultation today to ask questions before referring a client or for other information.
The science of mental health is constantly evolving, so I develop my practice with it. To do this, I take an integrative approach to psychotherapy, integrating various methods according to the client’s needs. Primarily, I use the treatment protocol that the APA and/or SAMHSA recommends based on meta-analyses of treatment outcome studies for each disorder.
Evidence-based approaches are crucial but not enough. Effective treatment requires a therapeutic alliance in which the therapist is client-centric and culturally sensitive. For my clientele, this requires a faith-based approach.

FAQs
ACCESSIBILITY / AFFORDABILITY
Where are you located?
DeVine Interventions Group is in NW Philadelphia, in the Mt Airy neighborhood. You can find directions & public transportation information here. We also offer online therapy through a secure app, which you can access by phone or desktop. We are trying to reach patients in underserved counties of Pennsylvania, so this option makes us accessible to non-Philadelphians. Although we love meeting clients in person, not everyone can travel, and we know from the research that telehealth is effective.
Are you affordable?
DeVine Interventions Group has credentials with the following insurance companies: Aetna, Allied Benefits, Cigna, Quest Behavioral Health, and Optum (which includes UBH, UMR & UHC). We also have credentials with the following EAP companies: Health Advocate, Aetna, Cigna, and Optum. We can reimburse your patient if their insurance is PPO. For further support, we offer a sliding scale.
What about my handicapped patient?
DeVine Interventions is in a handicap-accessible facility with an accessible entrance and restroom. We also have telehealth.
What if my patient needs medication?
Due to a shortage of psychiatrists, many primary care providers are now evaluating their patients for depression and anxiety and prescribing medication to treat some disorders, such as Major Depressive Disorder and General Anxiety Disorder. DeVine Interventions Group does have a list of psychiatrists to whom we refer clients; however, most of them don’t take insurance, and there is a long waiting list.
Do you practice marriage and family therapy?
We provide couples therapy but not family therapy or children’s therapy. We keep a list of therapists who do treat children and/or families to help you find a therapist who can take these clients.
FAQs
METHODOLOGY
Do you use Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT)?
Yes, DeVine Interventions Group uses Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT). ACT practitioners refer to ACT as the third wave of CBT. DBT and MCBT are also third-wave CBT practices. However, there is a difference between CBT & ACT. In fact, ACT has proven itself effective at treating the same disorders as CBT but more effective at treating other disorders. CBT is limited, which is why many CBT practitioners are adding ACT principles, such as defusion and mindfulness, to their treatment protocols. You can learn more about ACT here.
Do you use Motivational Interviewing?
Yes, mainly for clients with a substance use disorder, process addiction, or anxiety disorders. I received training in Motivational Interviewing from Michael Levy, Ph.D., an expert in this field, so I have the necessary skills.
Do you use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)?
No, but Gary Devine is trauma certified. EMDR treats PTSD effectively, but research indicates it isn’t more effective than prolonged exposure. We always use research-supported protocol.
FAQs
SAFETY
Will Christian Counseling have an adverse impact on some of my patients?
No, because DeVine Interventions abides by the recommendations of the ACA & APA to respect the culture of the client and not proselytize. We meet our clients where they are, respecting their beliefs. We believe we are more respectful of our client’s culture and beliefs by acknowledging them and allowing clients to talk about them without fear of judgment than we would be by disregarding them.
How do you protect privacy and confidentiality?
By keeping sessions and records secure, we protect our clients’ privacy. In the first place, we keep most records securely online using SimplePractice OneDrive storage. We lock the remaining files in a cabinet in the office. Secondly, we do telehealth through the SimplePractice secure video app. Thirdly, we keep the office private by locking it and placing a noise machine outside the door. Lastly, we get updated training every other year.
Do you have any history of malpractice or professional censure?
No. Gary DeVine has never been sued or had a complaint made against him to the ombudsman, or any other organization.
